Photographers

In the United States, photography is a right protected by the First Amendment. Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of this right and how broadly it spans. Have you ever been approached by a citizen or person of authority when taking photos? What if a police officer told you that photography was not allowed? Would you know your rights in this situation?

The answer to many questions you may have about photography can be found in the Legal Rights Of Photographers PDF. Some questions you would need to ask yourself are "Am I on public or private property?" "Of what am I taking photos?" "Could there be any violations of privacy or military significance?"

Before you go out shooting, it is a good idea to know your rights as a photographer. I keep printed copies of the Legal Rights Of Photographers in my camera bag and hand them out to all my photographer friends. However, please note, laws and regulations may have changed since this piece was published, and it is always a best to research local laws and ordinances before shooting.

Check www.photopermit.org for more information and stories from around the world concerning photography and photographers.

In today's day and age, photographers are under assault by normal citizens and persons of authority alike. Photographers have been harassed, threatened, and arrested for taking pictures while operating totally within their legal rights. One huge issue that has arisen out of the ashes of 9/11 is the threat of terrorists using photos to plan attacks. With all the publicity and hype, it's easy to get sucked into the vortex of paranoia. However, when was the last time you asked yourself, Are Photographers Really a Threat?

Even if a person in the position of authority demands you pack up your photography equipment and leave or face arrest, sometimes they are just trying to strong-arm you into compliance. Now I do not suggest that you intentionally try to escalate any situation, but sometimes, people are just plain wrong! Check out this! (Video)
